The GIZ Waste Flow Diagram has been substantially improved since the first version which went live in 2024. Version 2 with enhanced scenario building and modelling of carbon emissions from open burning launched late 2025. Recent improvements have also included better visualisation of the management chain via color coded Sankey diagrams.
The application was also updated with workflow management and a formal data validation module, enabling study teams to request data validation by the GIZ WFD team. The latter role currently supported by DNA and Resources and Waste Advisory Group (RWAG).
In 2025 a milestone of validated studies for 100 “cities” was achieved.
